How to write and format lyrics
Format guidelines for adding Nepali lyrics with chords and section labels.
Lyrics on NepaliHymns must be written in Nepali (Devanagari) script. Chords and section labels go inline using square brackets. English letters are only allowed inside chord brackets.
Adding chords
Place a chord in square brackets immediately before the syllable it falls on — no space between the closing bracket and the word.
[A]महान ईश्वर [D]बिचार्छु [E]काम तपाईको अचम्म[A]को जो [E]सृष्टि [D]गर्नु [A]भो
Supported chord formats
- 1Basic major: A, B, C, D, E, F, G
- 2Minor: Am, Em, Bm
- 3With flat or sharp: Bb, F#, C#m
- 4Slash chords: G/B, D/F#, A/C#
- 5Extended: Dsus4, Cadd9, Cmaj7, Bdim, Faug
Section labels
Put section labels on their own line inside square brackets. They are displayed in the song view but are not treated as chords.

General tips
- 1Use a blank line between each verse, chorus, and bridge — this helps the presentation mode split slides correctly.
- 2Songs without any chords are saved as lyrics-only and display cleanly.
- 3You can paste lyrics from a document first, then add chords manually.
- 4The Romanize button converts Devanagari lyrics to Roman script while keeping all chords in their correct positions.
- 5If you spot a mistake in a published song, email hello@nepalihymns.com with the song name and the correction.
